Thaxted Parish Church is seeking to appoint a highly skilled and enthusiastic Director of Music and Organist.
The successful applicant will demonstrate the versatility and vision to build on a strong choral tradition.
FRCO or equivalent an advantage, RSCM rates.
Job Description
The Director of Music will be required to train the choir and play the organ for regular services. There are occasional extra service as well as weddings and funerals.
The regular commitment is Sunday mornings for Sung Mass at 11.00am and a weekly, evening choir practice.
At present, a small choir prepare an anthem every week and lead the congregation in the hymns and Mass setting.
There are 3 organs in the church, including the historic Lincoln Organ, played by Gustav Holst when he was organist at the church.
Thaxted has a strong musical tradition, including the month long Thaxted Festival which brings national and international performers to the church.
The Director of Music will report directly to the Rector.
This role includes fees in line with the RSCM scales and with additional payments for weddings and funerals. As the role grows, there will be opportunities for further remuneration.
Person Specification
We need someone who is inspirational, able to direct and inspire the choir and congregation.
We need to continue to recruit new choristers of all ages, so that the church continues its wonderfully rich musical tradition.
